Macon Fabrication played a crucial role in the Meridian Apartments project in Duncan, a major structural steel installation. This mixed-use development includes 6,927 square feet of commercial space and 10,130 square feet of residential space, with 137 rental units. The building features a hybrid structure, combining five floors of wood-frame construction with two levels of concrete parkade. Given the complexity, structural steel components reinforced key areas. With a focus on precision and efficiency, Macon Fabrication ensured the project met all structural requirements while maintaining durability.

With over 60,000 square feet of shop space, Macon Fabrication specializes in structural steel fabrication, machining, assembly, and industrial coating. For this project, the team handled both supply-only and full supply-and-install structural components. Their work included:

• Elevator divider beams and an elevator hoist beam for structural integrity.
• Structural columns and beams spanning four levels in one section and five levels in two others.
• Large HSS columns, ranging from 46 to 50 feet tall, supporting five floors from the promenade level to the roof.
• Industrial coating applied in-house to all structural steel components for longevity and resistance to environmental conditions.

Precision Installation with a Top-Tier Team

Collaboration played a key role in the installation process. Macon Fabrication’s experienced steel installation team worked closely with the framing crew, ensuring beams and columns were set in place as the building progressed vertically. A site crane lifted steel components into position, while a dedicated three-person team managed precise alignment and secure installation.

Due to their substantial size and weight, the exterior columns required specialized equipment. Using a 50-ton mobile crane and a Hiab provided by Kebouw, the team carefully lifted and positioned the components over two full days. The South columns went in first, followed by site welding to the steel embeds previously supplied by Macon Fabrication.
