When you’re lifting a turbine engine, there’s no room for compromise. Every weld, every joint, and every bolt must hold under pressure. For this recent build, Macon Fabrication was proud to manufacture a custom spreader bar designed to safely hoist a turbine engine with a maximum load of 40,000 lbs.
Heavy-Duty Metal Fabrication Using 44W Plate and A500C Steel
Spanning approximately 18 feet in length and weighing in at 4,250 lbs, the custom spreader bar was constructed from robust 44W plate and A500C HSS mild steel. These materials were selected for their reliable performance under heavy stress, making them ideal for a project of this scale.
Full-Scope Fabrication Services
Our customer provided engineered drawings to kick off the build, and from there, Macon’s in-house team of designers, fabricators, machinists, and welders brought the concept into reality—ensuring each step aligned with the structural and dimensional requirements of the lift.
One of the key aspects of this project was our ability to manage both the heavy-duty fabrication and the fine details. Our machinists produced critical load-bearing components, while our welders delivered the precision needed to meet strict structural tolerances. Once fabricated, the entire unit underwent a rigorous load test to certify its integrity and performance in the field.
Industrial Coatings for Durability and Safety
Safety remained front and centre throughout the build. Load limit etching was machined directly into the bar and then hand-painted by our coatings team, making the ratings easily visible and permanent, a crucial step for operational clarity in high-stakes environments.
We also applied custom industrial coatings to protect the structure from wear, corrosion, and environmental damage. This not only extended the lifespan of the spreader bar but ensured a high-visibility finish for onsite safety.
