Macon Fabrication completed the fabrication and installation of custom structural steel columns to support new playground safety netting at Selkirk Montessori School in Victoria, BC. The project required durable, site-specific steel supports designed to enhance safety while integrating seamlessly with the existing school infrastructure.
Custom Steel Fabrication and Column Design
Working within an operational school setting required careful coordination, clear communication, and adherence to strict safety protocols. Our installation crew executed the column placement efficiently, maintaining controlled access and minimizing disruption to school activities.
Installation in an Active Educational Environment
Collaboration played a key role in the installation process. Macon Fabrication’s experienced steel installation team worked closely with the framing crew, ensuring beams and columns were set in place as the building progressed vertically. A site crane lifted steel components into position, while a dedicated three-person team managed precise alignment and secure installation.
Due to their substantial size and weight, the exterior columns required specialized equipment. Using a 50-ton mobile crane and a Hiab provided by Kebouw, the team carefully lifted and positioned the components over two full days. The South columns went in first, followed by site welding to the steel embeds previously supplied by Macon Fabrication.
CWB-Certified Welding and Quality Assurance
All welding and fabrication were completed under CWB-certified procedures with strict adherence to ISO-based quality controls. Given the institutional setting, particular care was taken to ensure clean weld finishes, secure anchoring, and consistent structural alignment to meet safety expectations for an active school environment.
